| Personal Message from Catriona |
|
The emergency budget on 22 June made it clear that both the CII and IFS will have some additional study text updating to do as well as the standard examinable tax year updates they are normally working on. Any changes will be examined from 1 September 2010 – this is when they start examining tax year 2010/11.
My latest conversation with the IFS suggested that their updated 2010/11 study materials wouldn’t be available until September. The CII are saying that their's will be available towards the end of July. For news of release dates for 2010/11 study texts from either the CII or IFS, the best plan is to keep in touch with them as past experiencehas shown that they are not great at sticking to dates!
Remember, if you sit your financial services exam by 31 August then you will be examined on the 2009/10 tax year. Sit your exam after that and you will be examined on the 2010/11 tax year.
I hope you’re having a great Summer!

Feeling Insignificant? Why Certificate Level Exam - Takers Shouldn't Be Ignored
|
|
This article is relevant to anybody who wants to further their career in the financial services industry, whether you are at Certificate Level or Diploma Level.
During the past year in particular, talk and focus on Diploma Level financial services exams has become louder and more intense. Understandably so - the Diploma is a major issue in the industry today. However, this has been to the detriment of those sitting Certificate Level exams. Whilst employers have realised that they need to help their advisers in any way they can to reach the 2012 deadline, we are hearing from our customers that employers have been shifting their focus from Certificate to Diploma Level exam-takers, rather than widening their focus to incorporate those sitting the Diploma in addition to those sitting Certificate Level exams. Already scarce resources are being re-allocated from Certificate Level exam-takers to Diploma Level exam-takers. The result has been that more individuals have no option but to self-fund assistance with their Certificate Level exams.

| What's Around the Corner? |
| Change of Examinable Tax Year: 1 September 2010 |
|
We are beginning to hear from customers who plan to sit a financial services exam after 1 September when the examinable tax year changes from 2009/10 to 2010/11. The enquiries generally are around whether they should purchase 2009/10 learning resources now, or wait until the 2010/11 resources are available.
We strongly advise you to start studying and revising as soon as you possibly can. Yes, there will be updates to study texts and resources for the new examinable tax year, but the majority of the content will remain unchanged.
Here at Brand Financial Training, we will be offering resource updates for the 2010/11 tax year to everyone who has purchased a resource from us since 1 March 2010. Therefore there is no reason not to make the most of the time you have to study.

New CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning
The new Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning will ultimately replace the current Diploma in Financial Planning. However, the current J0 exams will still be offered for a couple of years at least.
The new exams will allow exam takers to enter or sit an exam online on any working day. It will incorporate multiple choice questions and case studies.
As far as Brand Financial Training is concerned, we will continue to offer all of our J0 learning resources until such a time that the exams are no longer valid. We will be producing learning resources for the new multiple choice and case study exams, but we cannot give a timescale on this at this stage.
