J04 : Pension funding options
The CII's J04 exam forms part of the Diploma in Financial Planning. It is a
2-hour short answer question paper consisting of 15 questions, with a nominal pass mark of 55%. The CII recommend 100 hours of study for this paper, although this can vary greatly from person to person.
The exam syllabus covers tax and legal frameworks relating to the accumulation phase of building up retirement benefits under registered pension schemes; defined contribution and defined benefit pension schemes; the decisions early leavers can make and transfer value analysis; state retirement benefits including contracting out of the State Second Pension.
